November 2016 marks the 20th Anniversary of the National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) since its establishment. Observing and marking this anniversary is an ideal time to solidify bonds, make an impact, and reflect on the Commission’s past, present, and future. It is also a moment to boost employee morale and provide public relations opportunities, a chance to reward employees who have contributed to the Commission’s success along the way.

The main aim of commemorating this 20th Anniversary is to build awareness about NaCSA’s work and strengthen the Commission’s capacity to fulfil its mandate through the promotion of community-based demand-driven and sustainable development activities leading to the alleviation of poverty, reduction in the threat of renewed conflict and improvement in the speed, quality and impact of development initiatives.

To make this memorable event a success, the Commission has outlined several activities including:
a) A joint monitoring and supervision mission to the four regions (Sunday 6th To 16th November, 2016)
b) Press briefing on what NaCSA stood for and where it has been to inspire present-day activities and the directions for the future (Second week of November 2016).
c) Radio/TV discussion with both past and present Commissioners and other key Staff (Second week of November 2016).
d) Launching of the NaCSA 20TH Anniversary Magazine (First week of December, 2016), including the rebranding of information brochures, leaflets, Calendars, etc.

Sunday 6th November, 2016 the Commission will undertake a joint annual monitoring and supervision mission on all the project activities undertaken so far in the four regions, in compliance with the field supervision plan developed and agreed upon at the outset of the project year and also take stock of the performance of the field staff on their respective performance targets.

This annual joint monitoring and supervision will also include briefing of key stakeholders at district level (District Councils, and relevant line Ministries) on activities of the commission so as to deepen the level of collaboration with other actors. This mission will also monitor outstanding issues related to the implementation of the Social Safety Net (SSN), Labour Intensive Public Work (LIPW), and the Sierra Leone Community Driven Development (SLCDD II), Pro-Poor Growth for Peace Consolidation (GPC II), Relief and Resettlement (R&R) and War Reparations, in line with the approved scope of works and activities in all districts.

This annual oversight visit will include key stakeholders of the Commission particularly the Parliamentary oversight committee, Board of Directors, Strategy and Policy Unit (Office of Chief of Staff), Senior Management Staff of the Commission, Civil Society Organisations and the Forth Estate.

Already modalities and logistics are being put in place to facilitate this very important exercise.

‘We want to see how much impact NaCSA has made on the beneficiaries and how we can help more people in the coming years’, Commissioner Badara Mansaray said.

It could be recalled that the same activity was undertaken last year by the Commission and the outcome was lauded by all, as very transparent and successful. This year saw the appointment of new members to the NaCSA Board who will also have to be appraised of the commission’s field activities.

NACSA has over the years successfully been working transparently with its donor partners especially the World Bank, German Development Bank (KFW), Islamic Development Bank, African Development Bank, UN Agencies, ECOWAS and other donor partners without any problems.

The Commission remains focused and committed to deliver on its mandate and is always open to the public and the media for any information regarding its operations and activities. Together we can transform Sierra Leone for the better
Happy 20th Anniversary
