On 7 – 21 May 2017, the County Civil Registrar, upon invitation by UNHCR Sub-Office Kakuma, issued 1,279 birth certificates and 231 death certificates to refugees in the Kakuma Operation. Out of the 1,279 birth certificates issued, 13 were renewals while 5 were late registration.

The UN Refugee Agency has organized a Mr. and Miss 2017 World Refugee Day beauty pageant that will see contestants from the refugee and host community compete for this year’s title. Auditions have been conducted and a total of 30 contestants selected from Kakuma and Kalobeyei to compete in this year’s beauty pageant. The event is set to take place on the 19th June 2017 at Liz Ahua Hall in Kakuma 3.

Joint polio and measles mop up campaign conducted in Kakuma camp from 12-18 February.70,000 children vaccinated (0-15yrs for polio & 6mths - 15yrs for measles)

As at 20th August 2014, Kakuma has received 42,228 asylum seekers from South Sudan. This brings the total camp population to 177,670.

As at 12th November 2014, Kakuma had received 44,151 asylum seekers from South Sudan. This brings the total camp population to 178,995.

The DRC ( Danish Refugees Council ) Head of Communications and Fundraising Mr. Peter Hermann Kamph based in Denmark visited Kakuma from 5th – 9th January.

UNHCR hosted a Canadian Selection Mission in Kakuma from 19 - 23 January 2015 to conduct resettlement interview in the camp and to be updated on the situation.

On April 2nd UNHCR Kakuma handed over eight projects funded for the host community in various locations in the sub-county and implemented by Lokado NGO.

UNHCR in collaboration with UNFPA & UN Women officially launched in KK the HeForShe campaign on 9 Nov. to raise awareness on inequality faced by women and girls
