Nearly 200,000 NRCs Issued in Mandalay

National registration cards (NRCs) also known as citizenship scrutiny cards, were issued to students, locals, and orphans from 28 townships of Mandalay Region under the Thitsa project at the Mandalay City Hall in Chanayethazan Township on 25 January. The project was launched under the leadership of the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, and Population and the Mandalay Region Government, with the support of United Pacific Co. Ltd and Advanced Myanmar Star Co. Ltd.
At the opening ceremony of the project, the Union Minister for Labour, Immigration, and Population, U Thein Swe, pointed out the increasing importance of
immigration functions due to the rising number of tourists, potential investors, and other visitors from abroad. The ministry has been issuing certain types of cards for the people depending on the result of their scrutinizing process, he said.
He said the census conducted in 2014 is supportive to the adoption of the national development plans. “A plan is under way to conduct an interim census in November this year. It will be a public-centred plan that will fulfill the needs of the people. The NRC issuance project began on 1 May, 2016. The project is being launched in all necessary places and field tours are being undertaken at the request of MPs. Currently field tours are being conducted in 13 townships of the Mandalay Region,” he said.
Afterwards, Dr. Zaw Myint Maung, the chief Minister of the region, and Daw Aye Mi San, the Market Promotion Director for the two supporting companies, explained the assistance being provided for the field tours. Then, the Union Minister, the Chief Minister, and officials presented certificates of honor to the staff taking part in the project. Under the project, NRCs were issued to nearly 200,000 persons, including over 100,000 students of basic education schools, 710 inmates of 15 orphanages, and more than 80,000 locals on Friday.
