Mbera Refugee Camp, Mauritania 2016. In the arid lands of South-East Mauritania, about 50,000 Malian refugees live in a condition of prolonged exile, since armed conflict erupted in Northern-Mali in 2012.

While the situation in Northen-Mali remains unstable, UNHCR continues to ensure access to basic services but also to strengthen refugees’ self-reliance through water, livelihoods, education and income-generating interventions to reduce dependency on humanitarian aid.
