Two Yobe towns, Fika and Ngalda, were on Saturday attacked by the Boko Haram insurgents that were on a looting spree, the chairman of Fika Local Government Area of Yobe State, Alhaji Baba Abare, told journalists on Sunday.

According to Abare, the militants shot sporadically on arriving at the two towns to scared people away in order to go about their devilish enterprise of looting without hindrance.

He claimed that their major target was shops from where they looted several food items as well as beverages, but added that no life was lost during the assault.

Fika is 150 kilometres west of Damaturu, the Yobe state capital and shares common border with Gombe state to the south.

It was gathered from a resident of the area, Yusuf Ibrahim on phone that the terrorists first launched an attack on Ngalda, which is the Yobe/Gombe border town.

He said they proceeded from Ngalda to Fika town, the headquarters of Fika Local Government Area of Yobe state.

Ibrahim said during the assault on Fika, the terrorists burnt down the Local Government Secretariat, the magistrate court of the area. "They as well torched the Divisional Police station," he said.

A top police personnel, who spoke anonymously to our correspondent said the attackers came to the two towns between the hours of 7:30 and 9:00 in the evening and attacked and looted several shops and went away with several food items.

He disclosed that the militants came to the areas in two Toyota Hilux vans and also went away with several motorcycles which they stole from the area.

When contacted, the Yobe state police commissioner, Mr. Markus Danladi declined to comment on the attack, insisting that the Military Joint Task Force is the only body that was authorized to speak on such matter.
