An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) allegedly planted by suspected Boko Haram members on Sunday exploded at a popular market, Gamboru Market in Maiduguri, leaving four persons critically injured, a member of the youth vigilante group in the town, Yunus Kaka has said.‬
‪It would be recalled that in the last 48 hours, the troubled town believed to be the birthplace of the deadly Boko Haram insurgency group has been under attack.‬
‪On Friday night the insurgents were repelled by the military when an attempt was made to invade the town. It was gathered that 16 persons were killed in that attack.‬
‪Just on Saturday afternoon, a mosque located at the main market in the town, Monday market, was attacked by a suicide bomber, during which 26 persons were reportedly killed and 28 others injured.‬
‪The attack on Gamboru market, according to Kaka, happened about 1:30pm. This he said caused pandemonium in parts of the town as people hurriedly closed their shops and fled for safety,and the streets were vacated.‬
‪It would be recalled that Gamboru market is one of the markets in the city that has witnessed a series of deadly attacks by the insurgents in recent past.
