Refugees from South Sudan continue to arrive in the remote Ethiopian Gambella region at a rate of up to 1,000 people per day, according to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

The agency says many of the refugees are from the Upper Nile where fighting broke out in December last year between forces loyal to President Salva Kiir and former Deputy President Riek Machar.

UNHCR is concerned about the approaching rainy season and it's working with its partners to relocate the South Sudanese refugees to higher grounds.
To find out more about this situation, UN Radio's Derrick Mbatha spoke with UNHCR spokesperson Luiz Fernando Godinho, who is currently in Gambella town.
