On 24 May, an empowerment project for Syrian refugee women started at Agamy Community Centre in Alexandria. The project aims at teaching refugee women new sewing skills and techniques enabling them to make products at home (Bags, cushions,…etc). The project is organized by UNHCR, Agora Arts Culture Centre and Caritas.

On 25 August, the Ministry of Social Solidarity held its annual ceremony to celebrate its yearly achievements by organizing an arts and crafts exhibition for the production of NGOs in Alexandria. The day also celebrated and honoured the youth who excelled in cultural and sports activities organized by the ministry during the year. UNHCR participated with the cooperation of its partner Caritas with six tables of Syrian and Egyptian handmade accessories, leather bags, wood crafts and food products.

On 5 February, 2017, UNHCR Egypt in coordination with the Government of Egypt, inaugurated a new “Schoolyard for All-Houshygama’ana” project implemented in 25 Yanaier School, Borg Al Arab City, Alexandria. The school hosts 264 Syrian refugee children at nursery, primary, middle and high school education levels. The intervention in the school included building a basketball court and a play area for children in the nursery school, creating shady areas and benches that are safe and child-friendly for children to be able to socialize and integrate, in addition to improving plumbing and electricity maintenance.

On April 2, 2017 the launch of the Egypt 3RP took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the presence of ambassadors, UN & government officials.

On February 15, 2017, during the United Nations Secretary-General (UN SG) António Guterres’ visit to Cairo, the UN SG reiterated his commitment to fighting terrorism but underlined also the importance of political solutions to the crisis in Syria and the wider region. He demonstrated his support for the intra-Syrian negotiations expected to begin later this month in Geneva.

On May 11 2015, Sharjah's Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al-Qasimi, wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and UNHCR Eminent Advocate visited Al Shamla public school in 6th of October City and Tadaomon Community centre in 6 October City Egypt.

On Sunday 28th of February, Representatives from the Embassy of Canada to Egypt visited the Alexandria Field Office for a briefing on the office’s activities.

On the 17th of February, UNHCR Egypt health team accompanied by Dr. Magdy Hegazy, the Ministry of Health First Undersecretary in Alexandria, visited two public hospitals, Ras el-Tin and Jumhureya hospitals, to assess the capacity and explore the potential services of the hospitals as well as to engage the Medical Directors to facilitate the reception of the refugees.

On the 5th of January 2016 UNHCR and The Ministry of Health (MOH) in Egypt signed an agreement today on enhancing access of Persons of Concern to UNHCR to public primary health care and referral curative care services. The agreement between UNHCR and The Ministry of Health in Egypt aims at providing an extensive access to all refugees and asylum-seekers registered with UNHCR in Egypt to primary health care and public hospitals in the areas of high concentration of refugees.

On the February 27, 2017 UNHCR Egypt participated at the International Cultural Festival at the 6th October University. This year, the festival focused on the global refugee crisis.
