Jordan welcomed the visit of UN Under Secretary General Valerie Amos, who is on a regional tour regarding the Syrian situation. The UNSG met with the Government of Jordan, along with UN agencies who are responding to the current unrest and discussed coordination mechanisms. The UNSG described the current situation as a \"political crisis, with humanitarian implications.

Jordan attended the international \"Friends of Syria\" conference in Tunisia on the unrest in Syria. Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh insisted that the Kingdom does not support foreign military intervention and explained to Jordanian Senators that “Jordan does not interfere in any country’s affairs. It supports Arab consensus on Syria and rejects military intervention in the country.\\\" However the Foreign Minister also stressed that while the Jordanian Ambassador to Syrian remains in Damascus, does not imply that the Kingdom is satisfied with developments on the ground, and rejects the use of violence.

L'assistant (Opérations) au Haut Commissaire des Nations Unies pour les refugiés, Janet Lim s'est rendue au Niger du 19 au 23 Février. Elle a rencontré le Ministre des Affaires étrangères, le Ministre de l’Intérieur et le Premier Ministre, et a réitéré l'engagement du HCR à soutenir les réfugiés dès le début de l'afflux jusqu'à ce qu'ils retournent au Mali. Elle a informé le gouvernement de l'ouverture d'un bureau à Ouallam, et la volonté de l'UNHCR à collaborer avec d'autres organismes. Les ministres des Affaires étrangères et de l'Intérieur ont indiqué que le pic de la crise était terminé, mais ils doivent se tenir prêts si la situation venait à empirer. Le AHC-O a également rencontré le Coordonnateur humanitaire, qui a plaidé avec le HCR pour notre intégrant les mécanismes de coordination existants. Le AHC-O a déterminé les trois engagements principaux du HCR : l’assistance, l'échange d'informations et la facilitation de la communication. Elle a également insisté sur les difficultés auxquelles fait face le Niger avec la sécheresse et la crise alimentaire affectant les pays du Sahel. Elle a souligné l’importance du rôle des institutions internationales telles que le HCR dans l’assistance des réfugiés afin d’éviter d’alourdir le fardeau du peuple Nigérien.

La CEDEAO et l'Union africaine consultent toutes les parties prenantes pour une conférence globale afin de faire face à la rébellion, le terrorisme et le développement du Sahel - région du Sahara. Après le sommet de la CEDEAO des 16-17 Février, les chefs d'États de l'Union africaine se sont réunis le 18 Février à Cotonou, au Bénin. M. Boni Yayi, président de l'UA et le président du Bénin doit donc se rendre au Mali dans les prochains jours pour chercher un moyen de régler pacifiquement de la crise malienne.

Selon le CICR, au moins 60.000 personnes ont été déplacées à l\'intérieur au Mali en raison des combats dans le nord.

As part of a two-day mission to Ethiopia (9-10 Feb.), UNHCR Deputy High Commissioner Alexander T. Aleinikoff and the Chief Executive Officer of IKEA Foundation, Mr. Per Heggenes, visited Kobe and Bur Amino camps on 10 February 2012. The two officials appreciated the progress being made to address Kobe’s alarming mortality rate in such a short time.

An extra-ordinary Task Force Meeting is called in for 04 January, 14:30 at UNHCR. The topic for that meeting is to discuss the contingency planning for refugees coming from Sudan and Somalia.

Refugee population in Ethiopia\'s Dollo Ado passes the 140,000 mark.

Hundreds of Somali refugees in southern Ethiopia’s Dollo Ado region have been relocated from an overcrowded transit centre to a new camp, Bur Amino. The Camp was opened on 30 Nov. 2011 and became the fifth one in the Dollo Ado region. The first group of some 400 refugees has been moved by bus from the transit centre to Bur Amino, 26 kilometres away. On arrival, the visibly relieved refugees underwent health and nutrition screening before being shown to their tents and given hot meals.
