Voluntary Return to Somalia: So far, 485 Somali refugees have left Dadaab for Somalia in 5 movements since 8th December.

The Fistula Foundation visited Dadaab today and identified patients to benefit from surgical care.

Voluntary return support now available for all refugees in Dadaab. Returnees will get reintegration assistance in 9 districts in Somalia.

Ministry of Health declared the end of the Cholera outbreak in Dadaab refugee camps. Last positive case recorded on 16 July. Close monitoring continues.

On 11 August Kakuma was inundated with torrential rains which caused flooding in various parts of the camp and surrounding areas. Many refugee shelters were destroyed and dykes and river banks were severely eroded in a number of locations placing refugees and humanitarian workers at risk. A vehicle ferrying passengers from Lokichoggio to Kakuma was washed away while trying to cross a seasonal river in Turkana West District, and 8 people lost their lives; it is believed that some among the dead were Sudanese on their way to Kakuma to seek asylum.

Ongoing Kenya operation moves nearly 75,000 Somali arrivals from Dadaab’s outskirts to its extensions before the onset of the rainy season.

Following last Thursday’s security incident in Dadaab, UNHCR and partner agencies have been continuing life-saving work for hundreds of thousands of refugees. Our staff and more than 30 partners remain operational in Dadaab’s three camps - Ifo, Dagahaley and Hagadera - as well as the new sites of Ifo 2, and Kambioos.

Between 1 and 5 Feb, the 8th round of Polio oral vaccination campaign was conducted in Dadaab camps. The last confirmed case of polio in Dadaab was in July 2013
