116 refugees return from Dadaab camps to Mogadishu in first voluntary return airlift

In total, as of 28th Feb. 52,591 Somali refugees returned home since 8th December 2014, when UNHCR started supporting voluntary return of Somali refugees.

Since 25 July more than 37,000 Somali refugees in Kenya relocated to Ifo Extension and Kambioos sites in the Dadaab camp complex.

The return intention profiling survey began in Dadaab on 17 February and will be completed in 6 weeks. The exercise is a joint venture between UNHCR and IOM.

On 25 and 26 Feb., UNHCR and partners engaged the refugee community in the 2014 Participatory Assessment.

Since the beginning of 2014, the UNHCR Dadaab operation has received 7,691 energy saving stoves and 8,999 solar lanterns.

*World Refugee Day (20th June) UNHCR and partners will lead the refugee community in Dadaab to commemorate World Refugee Day on 20th June. The global theme for this year is- “One family torn apart by war is too many.” The community has agreed to commemorate this day by conveying to the world, messages of peace through a campaign dubbed “31 Days of Peace Messages” which kicked off on 20th May. The community communication team is conveying these messages in camps as well as to local and international audiences through camp meetings, community radio and social media.
