PAKISTAN: ISLAMABAD 28 June 2019: UNHCR, The UN refugee agency welcomed the Pakistan cabinet’s decision to extend the Proof of Registration (PoR) cards to some 1.4 million Afghan refugees in Pakistan until 30 June 2020.

PAKISTAN: ISLAMABAD: Mr. Okoth-Obbo will also participate in the appointment ceremony of UNHCR’s first National Goodwill Ambassador in Pakistan and inaugurate a cold chain provincial warehouse in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. In addition, he will have an opportunity to interact with refugees during his visit. During his four-day visit, UNHCR’s Assistant High Commissioner for Operations will meet with senior Pakistani government officials, as well as meet with Afghan refugees in Islamabad and Peshawar. PAKISTAN: ISLAMABAD, 08 January 2020: UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency and the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund (PPAF) Wednesday launched a livelihood project aimed at providing sustainable livelihood opportunities for both Afghan refugees and Pakistani communities.

Pakistan: Islamabad: UNHCR focused its support interventions to the coronavirus in three main areas: prevention and response; water and sanitation; and risk communication.

Pakistan: Islamabad: UNHCR donated five fully equipped ambulances to the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The ambulances will be deployed to the districts of Haripur, Kohat, Mardan, Peshawar and Swabi.

Pakistan: Quetta: The UNHCR Representative undertook her first visit to Balochistan in September. During her visit, she inaugurated the skills development project for refugee and local women in Quetta. She also inaugurated the state-of-the-art laboratory at the Children Hospital. The Representative interacted with male and female refugee outreach volunteers and refugee elders from different refugee villages in Balochistan. She met with the Governor of Balochistan, Justice retired Amanullah Khan Yasinzai and discussed issues related to Afghan refugees in Balochistan.

ISLAMABAD, 15 April 2021 – The Government of Pakistan, with the support of UNHCR, has launched a nationwide verification exercise for 1.4 million Afghan refugees during which new smartcards will be issued. The Documentation Renewal and Information Verification Exercise, or DRIVE for short, was inaugurated at a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Islamabad by the Federal Minister for SAFRON, His Excellency Mehboob Sultan. The UNHCR Representative, Noriko Yoshida, and the Chief Commissioner for Afghan Refugees, Saleem Khan, were also present on the occasion. During the six-month exercise, registered Afghan refugees who currently hold Proof of Registration (PoR) cards will be provided with new smartcards.
