Growing influx of refugees to South Darfur observed, with over 7,500 arriving in July fleeing conflict in Northern and Western Bahr Ghazal states.

A UNHCR-chartered Boeing 777 flew in this morning with 91 metric tonnes of aid, including much needed shelter materials, jerry cans, blankets, sleeping mats and other essential items. The aid will be delivered to the refugee camps at Cox’s Bazar in south-eastern Bangladesh. A second flight donated by United Arab Emirates (UAE) is scheduled to land at 14:15 this afternoon local time, bringing in some 1,700 family tents.

Steady rate of new arrivals continues, especially to South Darfur and West Kordofan states.

Total new arrivals in 2017 so far is approximately 183,516 refugees. Over 461,000 South Sudanese refugees have fled to Sudan since December 2013.

As of 31 August 2017, the number of new arrivals was 4,887 since January 2017. The arrival rate over the year is an average of 20 individuals per day so far. Of the 4,887 new arrivals, 52% have settled in Reception Centers and the rest of 48% have settled in urban areas ( Kigali, Huye).
