Africa's Pulse, No. 23, April 2021 : An Analysis of Issues Shaping Africa’s Economic Future

Document Type: Reports and Assessments
Document Language: English
WB published its bi-annual Africa Pulse report, projecting continental GDP growth at 2.3-3.4% in 2021 (depending on policy choices), and 3.1% in 2022, with a generally weaker recovery among fragile countries. This means that most countries will remain well below pre-pandemic projections, due to severely constrained fiscal space and the risk of a dragged-out pandemic. The report recommends reforms that support job creation, equitable growth, protect the vulnerable and contribute to environmental sustainability in order to support recovery and avoid scarring in human capital. This report’s special focus theme is digitalization, both in the context of COVID-19 and in the longer term.
