Document Type: Updates
Document Language: English
This is the 31 October 2017 dashboard for internal displacements across Somalia recorded by the UNHCR-led Protection & Return Monitoring Network (PRMN) including not only displacements attributable to drought but also due to conflict and other reasons. Highlights: • PRMN monitored some new displacements of some 32,000 individuals countrywide during the month of October (down from 49,000 in September) – this is the lowest monthly figure this year. The main reason given for the displacements was drought-related for 23,000 and conflict or insecurity-driven for 8,000. While the majority of the conflict related displacements continue to stem from Lower Shabelle (7,000), a spike in conflict induced displacements was noted in Galmudug as a result of skirmishes between clan militias near the Galmudug-Puntland border. In addition, approximately 1,200 IDP returns were monitored during the month within Baidoa district. • Cumulative drought related displacements monitored by PRMN in the period
